Ecolec - Pioneering Heating

For more than ten years now, Richmond Villages, Warwickshire have pioneered Assisted Living. Residents have their own front door, living room, gallery kitchen, plus bedroom and en-suite shower room. It’s a real home for home, in a thriving community. Set within beautiful gardens and with it comes greater privacy and greater independence. When it became necessary to replace the care homes old heating system, Richmond Village decided it would be appropriate to specify a ‘pioneering’ new heating system from Ecolec.

The Ecolec wireless controlled heating system was installed through out he building, enabling the staff to set the temperatures in corridors and communal areas, while giving the residents complete control of the temperature in their own private rooms.

John Cashmore facilities manager at Richmond Villages, talks about the benefits of the Ecolec system:
“The primary problem with traditional electrical heating in a residential home environment, where some of the residents may have impaired sensory abilities, is that burns can all too easily occur. To ensure the risk is minimised. We need to ensure surface temperatures within the home do not exceed the government set standard.”

John continues:
“Changing to a wet heating system would mean changing the fundamental infrastructure of the building and causing major disruption to the lives of residents, not to mention the financial costs. When we looked to the market for a solution, the options were limited but the Ecolec system fitted the bill, whilst also being noise free and energy saving.”

The Ecolec Wireless transmitter has been designed and manufactured to the following harmonised standard: ETSI EN 300 220-3 433.92 Mhz operating band and is complaint to “Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations 2006.”

Imagine an electrical heater with a 500 watt element controlled electronically to give surface temperature of 70°C and an output of 400 watts. The integrated control within the heater maintains not only the temperature of the heater surface but communicates with the WCT 100/TX thermostat to control the room temperature.
